Here’s a cool tool that was born from a simple idea: a travel story and easy games can make learning and practicing a new language engaging and fun. Rather than drilling random vocabulary, learners hear and practice the real-life, useful words and phrases in the story of a young man’s travels through France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. (English for Spanish speakers is still in development, and 24 lessons can already be played.) Each lesson, or “Scene” of the story starts with a short dialogue. Players learn the new words of each Scene with various interactive games to practice listening, reading, speaking, and writing. At the end of each Scene, they hear the dialogue again and can record and compare themselves to the native speakers. In a German 2 Story sequel, a German traveler solves a counterfeit mystery in Berlin. All courses are free with simple registration. No registration is necessary for the Quick Language Games, the Story Podcasts, and Blog, which covers language learning, culture, and travel topics.
