Operating at the intersection of work, education and community, LRNG builds technology-enabled, community-based work and learning ecosystems. They are setting a new trend that weaves together fragmented local education and workforce development systems into a dynamic ecosystem that prepares youth for jobs of the future.
Their immersive platform enables young people to access both local and online experiences from their computer, smartphone, or tablet. Youth receive digital badges that mark their skill and knowledge and can unlock real world opportunities that include academic credit, internships and jobs.
The platform’s learning experiences are connected to career opportunities, ensuring that all young people, especially those from underserved communities, have inspiration and guidance to prepare them for life and work in the modern economy.
LRNG youth come from communities with an average income of less than $18,000/year, in which there is a dramatic underemployment of youth and their family members. “In these communities, it’s important that youth learning is directly tied to employment opportunity,” says Connie Yowell, CEO of LRNG. “In 2017, Over 90% of youth in the LRNG community have entry level jobs, and in pilot studies those completing our targeting hiring playlists are 5x more likely to hired after the interview than those not on the platform,” she says.
LRNG is currently operating in 19 locations, connecting with schools, community organizations, employers, summer youth employment programs, and more than 55,000 youth to build the future of talent. Learn more.
